USS Cobia SS 245

The USS Cobia SS 245 Located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin was launched on November 28, 1943. It was part of one of the largest classes of submarines of the time measuring in at 311ft 9in long, a beam of 27ft 3in and a draft of 17ft long.

In June of 1944, it began the first of six war patrols. In 1959 the US Navy Decommissioned Cobia and it was towed to Manitowoc to serve as an international memorial to submariners.

In 1986 The Cobia was declared a national historic landmark. The Cobia was incorporated as a part of the Manitowoc Museum.
